IBM T60 Display driver in RHEL 4.0

Hi,

I switched to RHEL 4.0 recently for some softwares.

Now I have trouble with my video card setting in linux. The max resolution I can use is 800x600.

The Video card is using VESA driver (generic). The monitor type is unknown.

I can't find "ATI Mobility Radeon X1300" in the video card list supported by RHEL 4.

What should I do?

Regards,
Neo

rhel 4 is old , very old
THIS month it hit end of life for service level 3
red hat since then( last week) extended it so it is now only end of life for service level 2

have you asked your support rep ?

the old rhel4 dose NOT support new hardware
it supports hardware from 2005 ( from before the release date - 2005-02-15 )

so if you MUST use it on a computer from 2012
install it( RHEL4.9) on a kvm in RHEL6.2

is this a laptop ?
if so do not bother
install rhel6.2 and then rhel4 ( in KVM) on a Desktop computer.

The T60 is even older. They should be compatible. However, somehow the video card is not recognized correctly.

I need RHEL 4 for some softwares. No choice, sigh!

Which CentOS is fully compatible with RHEL 4?
Using older glibc version?

CentOS 4.9 is the ONLY supported version of 4
or
ScientificLinux 4.9

both are free rebuilds of RHEL

the 32 bit cent iso install disk
http://centos.arcticnetwork.ca/4.9/isos/i386/
then update

SL 4
http://ftp2.scientificlinux.org/linu...c/49/iso/i386/

just be warned rhel and laptops do not mix well

the current 6 works mostly on most laptops but the older versions will only run on a few
if the installer lets you install Gnome desktop then it should mostly work ( busted mouse pad and sound problems are common)

but rhel ( or cent) 4 is from before my time
I never used it .I have only used RHEL and cent 5.2 and newer
also rhel 4 did NO ship with the software tool " yum" that came out AFTER rhel4 was released
the rhel4 program for installing software was "rpm" and " up2date"
you might want to read the rhel4 documentation
( it is the same for CentOS4 )
4 is down near the bottom of the page
