Exclamation I think my RH9.0 install is really messed up...very weird

Ok, I have had Redhat 9.0 installed for about 5 months, and I have had no problems at all. Today I installed gimp-2.0 and all of the dependencies, and when I restarted later today, instead of getting my usual GUI logon screen, I got some weird blue screen with a gray box that has "xRo@4" or something, and then "yes" or "no" for options on that box. And selecting either of those does nothing. I still have mouse support, and I can still log in console. What should I do to fix this??

i think something(config files) changed by your new gimp.
try 2 login console.then startx if everything is right,i think something wrong with your GDM then
try gdmsetup(???) 2 config your gdm .

Ok I got a little of this figured out. I changed by run-level to 3 so my machine boots into console by default. I can manually start the X server now, and its fine. But when I change the run-level back to 5 to login graphically, I still get that weird error. I tried running gdmsetup, but it didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions on how to fix that ?
