I have no desktop icons now, what do I do?

I have no desktop icons available now, I can try and open my disk manager and it attempts to open but simply goes away. As the computer boots it gives me an error message "/tmp/mcop-root is accessible owned by user" which I don't underst and at all.

You may want to see if your /home or /tmp is full. Otherwise, log in at root and clean out your /tmp dir.

cd /tmp
rm -rf *
rm -rf .*
*** be careful with the rm -rf command MAKE SURE YOURE IN /tmp or you could blow away your system.

For whatever reasons it wasn' t quite as simple as you explained but I was finally able to get into the dir and it's back to normal now.
I appreciate your help. I guess I need to find some good docs or books to read to really become a little more about the OS. Cause I've got to admit.........., I am loving it. Again Thanx!
