Howto edit a Perl file


How do you edit a Perl file?

Typically with any old text editor... Can you see the contents of the file when you cat it:

# cat <file>

Yes but, you can't read it ,it's just a bunch of scramled characters.

If it is a bunch of characters, it is not a perl file. It must be some other binary file, and perl files end with an extension *.pl.

Could be compressed, on the other hand perl tends to look like that anyway
can your read it with zcat? bzcat?

Try this:

# file <filename>

Perl files can be named anything. Post back the output of the file command.
