How to view Red Hat server's last actions, to clear out large backup files?

Hello,
my Red Hat server ran auto backups last night and over filled my disk.
The server started playing up with the disk at 100% capacity.

I have cleared some files bringing the disk to 91.3% capacity, however I need to see what the server did last night, to clear the disk back down to around 30%.

The disk back to its original 30% will then allow for this end of the month's auto backup to complete before hitting 100% capacity and messing up the server again.

If it's your server you should know where the backups are going. "ls -Sl" will give you the files in reverse size order (biggest first) - pipe into "head" to get just the first few.
"ls -tl" will do likewise based on time.

All in the manpage.
