how to set resolution to 1440x900

Hi,
I run RHEL5 on Dell GX280 with
"Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/910GL Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 04)"
and i810 driver.
But I cannot obtain 1440x900 resolution. Here's my xorg.conf:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "single head configuration"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"

### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC:
#DisplaySize 408 255
Identifier "Monitor0"
ModelName "LCD Panel 1440x900"
HorizSync 24.0 - 83.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 76.0
ModeLine "1440x900" 106.5 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -Hsync +Vsync
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "i810"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1440x900"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "1440x900"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 8
Modes "1440x900"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
EndSubSection
EndSection

Thanks

I can't duplicate this. Try one of these:

Code:
[mherring@Ath ~]$ gtf 1440 900 60

  # 1440x900 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 55.92 kHz; pclk: 106.47 MHz
  Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync

[mherring@Ath ~]$ gtf 1440 900 59

  # 1440x900 @ 59.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 54.93 kHz; pclk: 104.58 MHz
  Modeline "1440x900_59.00" 104.58 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 931 -HSync +Vsync
Also, I once discovered that I had to constrain the vert refresh when using a modeline, e.g.: (for a 60Hz modeline)
VertRefresh 59.9 - 60.1

AND--What happens if you remove the modeline and the all the modes? What options are you given?

Unfortunately, nothing changed. After removing the modeline and the all the modes, I get the same resolution options as before:
1280x1024
1024x768
800x600
640x480

Thanks

There are two places (assuming gnome) that you can change the screen resolution. Usually people just find the System->Preference->Screen Resolution and stop, but if System->Administration->Display is not set up properly the first one will not show the other resolutions. This may or may not be the issue you are facing.

I notice you're using the i810 driver. This may require the use of 915resolution utility first to make this resolution available:
