How to resize /usr with resize2fs and LVM2

I am trying to increase the size of my /usr filesystem with resize2fs by doing the following:

telinit 1
umount /dev/vgname/usr -> I get can't unmount device is busy. So I use lsof /usr to see who is currently has the /usr fs in an open state and it is several things. So i tried to reboot come up in rescue mode and resize it but it is still busy to where I can increase it I was figuring that I would be able to start a shell before mounting the fs's and then do the resize but it seems like it still mounts them in rescue mode. I am just seeing if anyone else has ever had this issue before .

Thanks,

with lvm2 you should be able to resize a mounted volume.

i believe you can use lvresize to increase the lv size and then use ext2online to grow the filesystem. this is based on rhel4, however, not fc4 as you have indicated in your sig.

That worked!!!!

Thanks for your help that wored it is already prebuild into fc4 for readhat plus I tested it on 20gb fs when the author of it says that it was only tested on a 11gb fs so I know that it will work up to 20gb.

Thanks,
