How do I open in same window?

This is kind of a stupid question, but I have Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. How do I open the windows so that each new folder I open opens in the same window instead of a new window? Thanks.

which environnement are you using? (ie. gnome, kde, xfce, etc...)

I suppose you use the default window manager gnome.

The application to browse the folders is usually nautilus.

There you have 2 choices how to open directories in the same window:

1. Use middle mousebutton.
2. Edit->Preferences->Behaviour->Always open in browser window.

I suppose you are talking about the Gnome file manager aka nautilus.
You need a program named gconf-editor (I believe it comes from a package of same name - at least in FC8 is the same...)
On the left side panel, go to /apps/nautilus/preferences and on right side panel, check the option "always_use_browser".
