What went wrong? Did you get any errors? It helps a lot if you can write down specific messages and post them here.

Are you trying to install from a network? hard drive? cd, dvd? usb? etc..?

Hi. If u have RHEL 4.0 it may be possible to not have s-ata drivers installed on the default cd. You have 2 options:

1. Get a copy for RHEL 4.5 - the latest version - this one should work
2. Get a floppy and copy the drivers for Linux for your HDD. Then when you boot your linux cd, try to specify that you want to boot with drivers from the floppy.

parthasarathy-- Is the drive detected in the BIOS?

trpjagan-- Afaik, if RHEL doesn't see the drives, you're out of luck. Try a newer version, maybe? Have you tried any other linuxes? Does windows even work? In linux, drivers are part of the kernel. You'd have to edit and recompile the source code, which sounds more daunting than it is. But you'd need a pre-existing linux install, and I'm not sure how you could use it to install RHEL.

Just a disclaimer: I'm still a linux noob myself, and more familiar with Slackware on my puny home machine than anything else.

What version of RHEL do you have?

Installing RHEL 4/5 on DG33BU/CORE2DUO 2.66GZ

While Installing RHEL 4 it is getting stucked in the first page after displaying the system configurations. Can any one help me to solve this problem.

My system configuration:

Mother board : Intel DG33BU

Processor : Core2duo ( E6550 )
2.66Ghz
4MB cache

Sorry for the late response. You have 2 options:

1. It may be that your hardware is new and isn't supported by RHEL 4 or
2. you may have a hardware issue (problem)

RHEL 4 has some nice updates if u have a valid subscription. The last update for RHEL 4 is Update6. Try to get it from www.redhat.com. And try to install it on your new configuration.

If it is indeed a hardware problem then you must check for your components. I suggest to check first for your memory then go for hdd and if the problem is bigger go check your motherboard, cpu, graphics card. For memory try testing it with Memtest86+. And for the hdd go to your manufacturer company (e.g. if it's Seagate which is in your case go to seagate website and download the tool for verifying your hdd integrity).

As for parthasarathy problem as I already said try updating for the latest version of RHEL which is Update6. If u have RHEL 4 and Update1 or below it will not detect your hdd.
