Hmm... Rockwell Soundcard under Red Hat 9...

according to the GUI my soundcard isnt compatible with red hat 9, altho when i run lspci it shows up...

any ideas or walkthroughs on how to mount it?

its a rockwell sound card/modem.... no clue what model

Since you say it shows up in lspci it might have been a good idea to post it's output. I have no idea how to help you without the chipset of the modem/soundcard.

You've unfortunately got a bizarre card that doens't have a whole lot of support from the linux community. I found a beta driver here: http://www.olitec.com/pci56kv2.html that might work. The site is in french, though so if you don't speak french you might have to use one of those site translators.

that isnt what i need... thats only the driver for the modem part, which i dont need at all, im set up over ethernet...

In that case, invest $20 or so and get yourself a cheapo, well-supported card. I can't find any support for the rockwell. Not even from alsa.

I think that link might be broken or temporarily down. I got an "under construction" notice. Basically, what you want is a PCI (not ISA) card with a brand name. The ISA's will still work but there's more hassle trying to get them to work. The soundblasters are all very well supported. In fact you can get just about any sound card working under linux with the exeption of your one... I'll have a look at that link again later.

ok its a link for a sound blaster pro Live! PCI card... so that should be fine.

Yep it should work fine. The driver is part of the kernel and will be compiled as a module. The module is called "emu10k1.o". So a modprobe emu10k1 should make the sound work and put the line "emu10k1" into /etc/modules to load it automatically each time.
