Help with sound on Dell Latitude D610, works with Knoppix 4.0 CD.
Hi, I'm looking for some help with my Dell Latitude Laptop with sound setup. I have downloaded the alsa driver 1.0.11rc2, and alsa-utils-1.0.11rc2 they seem to install and setup correctly. Hardware browswer says I have Intel Corp 82801 ICH6 family, and says it is using snd-intel8x0 (same as what knoppix CD sets up.)
Sounds works with knoppix but not with Redhat Fedora Core 4. Kernel is: 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4.stk16 When I run alsaconf this is what I get: ---stuff deleted about me choosing the hardare--- Loading Driver... Starting sound driver: snd-intel8x0 done Starting sound driver: snd-intel8x0 done Setting default volumes... amixer: invalid option -- s Invalid switch or option needs and argument. Usage: amixer <options> comman And then the default help for amixer. After I get this, I can go unmute the sound with the redhat sound volumes thingy, and then I can try and play the samples sounds from the speaker-test part of alsa utils. They seem to try to play with Helix Player but no sound happens. Any ideas would be welcome. Sound seems to work great with the Knoppix CD same driver, same machine etc. Somehow I think that it is broken because the sound detect didn't seem to work when I *first* installed Redhat, but its just a hunch. The hardware detect seems to find the hardware ok. -Ira |
