How about trying one distro at a time?

People may become confused as to what you
are up to ... I certainly am, it was only five minutes
ago that I responded to your Slackware question.

Moved to RedHat forum ...

Cheers,
Tink

Hi there could be a case of a blind leading the blind

But i too recently loaded RH9 4 days ago.....
i was able to load it without many probs but the xfreeserver for GUI crashed and I am working on it well thats another matter

In ur case plese check the devices that u have connected to ur serial prots... as first the keyboard, display monitor and mouse are detected and then the drives for setting up....

as u seee that ur sys is stoppin after comin to the ttys1 or 3 these are the port IDs in linux as in windows we have COM1 COM2 etc.....

so check the devices are in the default comports and u have not added any unknown devices....

Lastly check the consisteny of teh distribution CD ur using... there might be a problem in the CD u r using to load the OS

Please do tell me about ur experience

woohoo someone replied...

com ports eh ...

i did have 2 mice plugged in
i unplugged the wireless usb one and just left the normal one in

i also unplugged a headset from my sound card and
a web cam from a usb port

as for the cds i did the md5sum check thing and the numbers matched up fine before i burned the image to cd...so i would think that is not the problem...but i guess it is possible something went wrong durring the burn...i doubt it though, it said it burned fine

I just want the damn thing installed so i can play lol

so i took out all that stuff and still have the same results
still stuck in the same place

ok i got past that problem ... i decided to just break it down to the basics

i took everything out ... i just left a hard drive, cd rom, and video card.

i took out my sound card and network card.
i also unplugged my second hard drive (i have windows on that one)
i unplugged my second cdrom (cdrw) it is ghetto riged anyway, tray tapped together lol
i unplugged my floppy drive (it was broken anyway, if fact i don't think that was hoooked up)

soooo i got past that irq part!
now it went into install mode but of course there has to be another problem
now it says ... "Red Hat CD not found. Please put in a red hat cd" or something to that effect
i think the first time i saw the message it said something about the cd doesn't match your boot or something i dunno
ARGG WTF now ...

two steps forward and one step back

oh well ...

you know how it is 3 cds ... is it going to tell me when to put in #2...i was going to try and put the second in but the damn cd rom won't open at this point

well we'll see what happens ... think i'll go back and try slackware again real quick
NO SIR slackware seems kinda hard lol ... not a good first linux experience for my noobish self.

ok this is the redhat message
"CD NOT FOUND"
the red hat linux cd was not found in any of your cdrom drives. please insert the red hat linux cd and press ok to retry.

wha wha what ... it is freakin right there in the drive. i go to open the drive and NOOOO it doesn't want to open.

what the hell do i do now. i guess maybe i can try to reburn the first cd ?
restart and try again ... done that and same thing happens.

hmmm

LINUX A GO GO BABY!!!
I AM NOW RUNNING LINUX!!!
YAY

ok i got c:\mandrake and d:\xp

i gave up on red hat ... keep failing media checks and ****
it just sucked

so i got bigger cds (80min 700mb) and i got mandrake 10

it went perfect EASY smooth
i got it installed and am now on my journey down the road of linux

i have 2 hard drives and i have xp on one and linux on the other

i just unplug one and have the one with the OS i want at the time plugged it

later i am going to go back and play with slackware...
i am going to put that on my old pentium one laptop
slackware 8.1 is only one cd which is cool and it seems to be all text based which would be good for the slow machine.
if anyone knows any good slackware info or tutorials that could help cause this disto seems a lot more complicated to get set up and use
