Hanging at boot

I'm running RH 9 on a Thinkpad T22. I've been running it for a few weeks now without any problems. After class today I shutdown the laptop and closed the lid. (I closed the lid before everything had finished unloading) It will no longer boot passed the PCI devices. Anyone have any suggestions?

update - I've tried reseting bios defaults, removing removable hardware, linux rescue ... nothing is working.

update2 - can't boot to damn small linux either. Hangs at "Autoconfiguring devices..."

Well the mystery continues. I still can't seem to boot any Linux distro. , but I can successfully boot into a Windows PE (pre-install edition) cd. (Windows PE is basically a Live-CD version of windows.) However, I am unable to diagnose any problems within windows.

Well I've narrowed it down to the Ultrabay. I've gotten it to boot succesfully 3 times....all after switching in different devices into the ultrabay. Now I'm out of devices and can't get it to boot again.

Well...it *seems* to be fixed (knock on wood).

I booted to single user mode and then did a kudzu. I'm still not sure what it found, but apparently it found something.

It's amazing how much can be accomplished by starting a thread and talking to yourself.

I run into persistent problems booting from Knoppix to my 'new' Thinkpad T20. Hangs up at 'autoconfiguring devices'. You solved a similar problem by booting as single user. How is that done ?
