gtk not found while installing nessus

Please bear with me. I have searched dozens of threads to resolve this.
I have RH ES version 4 installed. Works great.

I am trying to install nessus. In preparation for that I used the add/remove applications to install the development tools (gcc and others) and the gnome software development tools. Both installs appeared to work correctly. I then downloaded nessus tar files and started the install. the ./configure make make install on the first two packages ran just fine. When I went to install the third package nessus_core I get the following message towards the end of the ./configure

"checking GTK version... 2.4.13
"configure: warning: **** gtk not found"

I had a co-worker check another system (RH ES ver3) and there is a file called gtk.conf that is on his system and not on mine. He suggested I uninstall the gnome development package and reinstall it. When I try to do that through the add/remove packages application it bombs out and tells me several packages are not found. Although if I select them it tells me they are already installed.

gnome-vfs2-devel
libknomeui-devel
gliv2-devel
fontconfig-devel

I'm sure the answer is out there, I just can't seem to find it.
Thank you for your time.

John

Patience is a virtue and if people think you are being rude they won't help you.

You need to make sure you have gtk2-devel installed. To do this you can run,
Code:
#rpm -qa | grep -i gtk
A list of installed packages with gtk in their name will be listed.

I'm sorry if that was rude. I am looking for good resources on the web and thought there might be other sites that someone could recommend for researching a problem, and yes gtk2-devl shows that it's installed. Thank you.

So maybe it needs gtk1. Try installing gtk-devel alongside gtk2-devel.
