Good News: RED HAT 9 IS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED ON SATA HARD DISK BY ME...

Dear All users,

I am sending this post for most of Linux users because just oneday before I am successfully installed REd HAT 9 on SATA hard disk. How it is possible ? I am giving here explanation what can I do ?

At least one month I googled with various sites and took membership in www.linuxquestions.org and www.fedoraforum.org interacted with various pepole in the world because first I installed Fedora Core 6 on SATA hard drive but I did not found Novell connection for our local Novell server 5.00 from this machine.

In several topics I found that in some cases It is possible SATA hard disk compatible with RED HAT 9. But I did their ways and no result.

First of all I am telling that I have limited answers like on SATA hard disk I have installed RED HAT 9 (kernal 2.4.-20) complete package successfully, Open office 2.0 and grater, Fire Fox browser 1.0 and grater , Novell Client 0.81,dosemu for running dos from linux,Foxpro files and additional fonts for open office 2.0.3.

Other features like multimedia, vpn, internet and many more questions I don't have any answers. But I am confirmed that REd hat 9 working successfully with SATa Hard disk.

My Machine configuration is : HP Compaq DX 2280 DEsktop Pc

Chipset Type - 945g - Intel Pentium IV Dual Core 2.66 ghz
HDD - 80GB SATA Hard Disk
256 RAM
IDE - INTEL CORP. 82801 FB/FW (ICH6/ICH6W) SATA CONTROLLER
Processors - 8050
Ethernet Card : Real Tek Semiconductor Co. Ltd. RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 10)

In installation I only changed in BIOS setup like

in STANDARD CMOS FEATURES - HALT ON - NO ERRORS
ON-CHIP SERIAL ATA - AUTO

[ Above TWo steps and First Boot -CD Rom and start installation. In partition area give Automatic then it is take SATa as simple IdE and so on. It takes little more time 1.45 hrs than regular RED Hat 9 installation.]

WHERE INSPITE OF AUTO FIRST IT IS ENHANCED AND I ALSO TRIED WITH COMBINED BUT NO RESULT ERROR : DRIVE NOT FOUND....

This way I successfully installed Red HAT 9 on SATA hard disk. From above any questions Pl. feel free to ask. At present my two desktop pcs. are running in Novell Network successfully like other windows and linux machines. We have also worked with Oracle9i on REd HAT 9 platform with browserbased system with R.F. connectivity. Backend JAVA....

So we have two servers IBM RED HAT 9 - Oracle9i AS and Novell 5-dos and windows.

Try above only two steps changed and installed RED HAT 9 successfully.

Best of Luck for all users...

Vipul Patel - Ahmedabad - India

Interesting - I worked with a guy here in the US named Vipul Patel.

Good work.

By the way RH9 is fairly old. After RH9 the distributions basically split. Fedora Core (FC) is the non-commercial version and RedHat Enterpise Level (RHEL) is the commercial version. They are now up to FC6 which means you're 6 versions back. I wouldn't suggest going to FC6 since it is so new but you ought to consider going to at least FC4 as it has the 2.6 kernel which is a fairly major change.
