getting higher resolution on Compaq nc6000

I have recently installed fedora core 3 on my laptop nc6000.

Unfortunately i am unable to go higher than 1280x960. In windows the maximum resolution is much much higher.

Can anyone help me out with this ?

hi there

u need to edit ur
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
file

from ur laptop manual check out the horizontal and vertical frequency range and use that in xorg.conf and add all the resolutions and restart X server and choose the the higher resolution from display utilty in system settings menu

also before editing the xorg.conf ,take its backup in case u end up with nothing,so that u canreplace the default config file

Run Xorgconfig and configure your resolutions and colour mods.
Be carefulwith mouse configuration. Sometimes can be very naughty. Consider backing up your current Xorg

the above command doas nt work in Fedora!!!
manual editing the file i think is the option
