Did you configure Gaim successfully? Is Gaim running functionally OK?
Does this happen always, or only with the latest release?
Is your networking functioning OK? Did you open up ports on the firewall to allow traffic for protocols/hosts Gaim needs? Does "renicing" Gaim work?
Did you check out if this is an issue with Gaim
? If that doesn't get you any further, (I don't run Gaim, but) does the app come with (commandline) flags to make it run with verbose logging? If you start it from an Xterm, Kterm, Gnome-terminal or whatever it's called, does it show any errors? When the process is running, what status shows "top" it to be in? If you have "lsof", find the process ID of Gaim (run something like "pgrep gaim"), then with the PID you found run "lsof -p 2>&1|tee /tmp/gaim.err" and post the output (see /tmp/gaim.err) in Gaim's bugtracker.
