GAIM .72 and High CPU Usage on RH9

I'm having an odd problem that I can't seem to track down.

Running GAIM. 72 on Red Hat 9 with all the current updates from RH.

After GAIM starts within about 2 minutes, it is using 80-90% of the CPU time. Everything else is working fine, I'm just having trouble figuring out why or what is going on.

Any suggestions would be great.

Did you configure Gaim successfully? Is Gaim running functionally OK?
Does this happen always, or only with the latest release?
Is your networking functioning OK? Did you open up ports on the firewall to allow traffic for protocols/hosts Gaim needs? Does "renicing" Gaim work?

Did you check out if this is an issue with Gaim? If that doesn't get you any further, (I don't run Gaim, but) does the app come with (commandline) flags to make it run with verbose logging? If you start it from an Xterm, Kterm, Gnome-terminal or whatever it's called, does it show any errors? When the process is running, what status shows "top" it to be in? If you have "lsof", find the process ID of Gaim (run something like "pgrep gaim"), then with the PID you found run "lsof -p 2>&1|tee /tmp/gaim.err" and post the output (see /tmp/gaim.err) in Gaim's bugtracker.

Yes, I was able to configure GAIM successfully and appears to be functioning as it should. I went through and turned off a bunch of services I'm not using at the present time, and GAIM seemed to run fine last night.. no hang ups or anything.

I'll check on the other stuff and see if it happens again and post the output of losf. Thanks.
