FANTASTIC!! cdrom locked in rescue mode!!!!!
It's very fantastic, Red Hat and friends have decided to put the SysVinit.rpm package on the second cdrom!!!
Have you ever tried to recover an init file corrupted by reinstalling the rpm SysVinit in rescue mode?? It is simply impossible because the cdrom won't absolutely eject to insert the second disc!!!! so you must use only first cd.......no way to install it yes you can use a floppy, or a network path to get your dear package but.... did you know that on friday i have the exam? i really can't figure out what i will say to instructor if he will ask me to reinstall init without using anything except cdrom i can't believe it I have tried everything, from eject, to fuser to hdparm no way...that damned cdrom won't eject.... NOTE pay attention, the rescue mode doesn't really need the first cdrom because when it is loaded....is loaded. You can listen to the cdrom loading and loading while you are using commands in rescue mode but it is all a fake..... i have eject my cd by putting a sting in the emergency hole of the cdrom, and after changed it with the second cdrom, rescue mode still works without problems, and i have even reinstalled the init package, so in reality the problem is solved.... But the question still remain... in the middle of the exam, what will i say to the instructor? please give me a sting???   i want to die!!!!  do you know how to do it???? :( :( no way with google, no way with books, no way with forums, really no way. :o :o |
what exam would this be? RHCE? if so then i'm not about to tell you how to pass it without knowing the answers yourself. I will say that you can absolutely complete RHCE without using ANY removable media whatsoever on the troubleshooting stages. they make it easier, but i passed without using it at all

Imagine for a second that init is completely deleted, you have to reinstall the Sysv package to recreate it. So If they don't give you a network path to Redhat images,i can't imagine a way to recreate from zero init, you must use removable media.
I have to do rhct In the manual they say to reinstall that package by insert the correct cd but the cd in rescue mode can't eject, i have tried every commands in every forum i have found. Correct me if i am wrong |
Mount cdrom under Rescu Mode
Hi All,
I know this is an old post, thought I'd update it anyway. To mount cdrom in the rescue mode You should create a block device first: # mknod /tmp/tmpcdrom b 22 0 # mount -t iso9660 /tmp/tmpcdrom /cdrom Later Joe |
