Failed to install fvwm-2.5 on RHEL 5.6

Hi,

I'm trying to use VNC and would like to get fvwm installed so the GUI get usable.

I get the rpm from googled sources and tried to install it.

Unfortunately, just like all other tools I'm trying to install. It also failed. Below is the message from linux.

Would like to suggestion on the solution and short explain on what is going on? (I don't know linux much.)

Regards,
Neo

It seems that I can get most of the packages installed:

However, this still remains:

/usr/bin/mimeopen is needed by fvwm-2.5.26-2.el5.2.i386

Not sure how to get this installed. Googled but no clear answer found.

If you want to use vnc then try this link
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tigervnc/files/

and for fvwm download a tar file instead of rpm to overcome dependency

http://www.fvwm.org/download/

Did you buy the REQUIRED support contract ?
RHEL is not free

You are paying for access to rhn for the backports to the older 5.6
use " yum "
first search the rhn repo , then install it
Code:
su -
yum search vnc
there are programs in the rhn repo that you payed for access to

you also might want to use the search option on this forum
from 2008 but this is rhel5 so...
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...server-635622/

from red hat
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/search
search for "install vnc"
now a payed for license is required to read the knowledge base
