eSATA RHEL4

Anyone got any experience with eSATA cards and drives under RHEL4? I've got a client with two RHEL4 boxes that want to add eSATA cards and drives for backup purposes.

They really need to automount like a USB drive does, would RHEL4 automount eSATA?

Any hints / tips to get this working, and recommendations on the PCI card to get would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gushy

You show gather all info on that eSATA drives and ask Red Hat support about it, they are there for exactly that reason.

I agree with contacting RedHat support...they're paying for it, so call them.

On that note, you do realize that RHEL4 does NOT support SATA/eSATA, right?? You'll have to do some serious work to get it going, and your mileage may vary on the performance/problems you'll have.

Best advice I can offer, is tell your client to upgrade to the latest RedHat, if they want to use the latest hardware. Otherwise, they should stick with the 'legacy' stuff they've got.

They are outside of their support contract so contacting RH is a not an option.

TB0ne: I had suspected that eSATA might not be a supported tech in RH4. Looks like I might have to push them to upgrade to RH5.

Thanks guys,

Gushy

No problem. Good luck!

I put a Startech card in and RH4 will map the esata drive just as a normal sata drive, it doesn't recognise it as a hotplug style device as expected.
