eepro (isa) on rh9 as second nic
I have redhat 9 on an old dell optiplex... 233 mhz, 96MB
I installed an old etherexpress pro 10 and ran the softset2 from intel to configure the io and irq, 0x300 and 10, and turned pnp off like most howtos seem to say.
ifconfig eth1 shows nothing at first -no such thing-
modprobe eepro io=0x300 irq=10 WORKS FINE...
after that, ifconfig eth1 shows the card with the correct mac address.
problem is dhclient complains about configuration.
so I put alias eth1 eepro and the appropriate options line in the modules.conf and restarted (cause that's what we do in windows land).
proc/interrupts shows nothing on 10, ioports shows nothing on 300
I'd rather use the conventions established in redhat 9 rather than just throw a bunch of script commands in wherever they'll work. How does one include configuration of this device with the other card? incidentally, I'd like the eepro to be eth0 w/ dhcp and the built in pcibus 10/100 (3c59x) to be eth1 static to act as router/fw because, of course, I want the slower card on the wan side.
I've tried to read through rc.sysconfig and the init.d/network scripts but it's giving me a headache - sorry for the drama.
Thanks
