first, please use suitable thread titles. if your question has a title implicit about the content, you're much more likely to get a reply...

can your windows machine access apache through the ip? sounds like you simply haven't got the linux box in the networks DNS records, however you've not given a full picture of what works and what doesn't. if you've not configured apache at all yet, you should get a default apache welcome page on the default port 80 output

apache server on redhat in windows2000 domain environment

thx Chris, i have apache running on linux and accessable from linux box no problem (both by ip or name), but not the windows xp (not even by ip :( )
i m not sure if i need to setup a separated dns server on the linux box before i run apache. or i can simply use the windows dns server.....

well you should be able to leave dns out of the equation for now, and just access by IP. so you can ping the linux server from windows by ip address, but you can't see the webpages when accessing by IP? you're not hitting a proxy or anything? i've not come across any version of apache that only listens internally. when you are looking at it locally, are you using the external IP, or through the loopback IP?

i m just using it locally...linux and windows xp connected by a switch, which ip address 192.168......no external ip involved at all....still cant access from windows xp to the apache.....
