dualboot+rhel+fedora

I have three scsi drives and am attempting dual boot with RHEL-3-WS and Fedora Core (3) -2.9-whatever. Have tried multiple configs (raid, lvms, shared swap, shared boot, shared nothing). I've moved files from FC3's /boot and /grub.config. my bios will not accomodate fencing individual drives. will look into fstab. It appears that what ever distro I install last, is the one that boots no matter what drive i designate in the Bios. to me, this would indicate that the boot config frames and mbr options( during install) have an influencing , if not desired, effect. Iguess i need some concept adjustment, followed by allot of detail!!! thanks

Hi rtyler,

Dual/triple/quad and so on booting should not be a problem if you follow these steps..

1. First Install one distro (lets suppose RHEL). Install the GRUB bootloader for RHEL onto MBR...

2. Next Install another distro (suppose FEDORA CORE 2) and at the time of installation of BOOTLOADER, choose 'First Sector of Root Partition' ...That is, if FC2 is installed on /dev/sdb1, then install GRUB on /dev/sdb1

In the same way, you go on installing distros and install them on the first sector of their respective root partitions.

3. Now, boot into RHEL (the first distro that you installed), and edit the file

/etc/grub/grub.conf

Add the respective kernel entries and initrd entries for all distros. You can experiment with the various parameter entries so it wont be that difficult to multi-boot.....

Hope that helps
