Dual booting Red Hat 9 on an HP nx9010 notebook

I have configured an HP nx9010 laptop to dual boot Windows XP Pro and Red Hat Linux 9. The IEEE 1394 port has been disabled using Windows Device Manager however, irrespective of whether it's disabled or enabled in Windows, the system stalls attempting to start the device when booting into Red Hat.

HP have advised that there's no way to disable the port in the BIOS, so does anyone know if there's a way to get Red hat to ignore/bypass it?

Alternatively, does anyone know how to boot into maintenance mode?

Thank you.

Thanks Maxut, but the problem is that I can't boot into Red Hat at all to edit any files... the OS just freezes waiting for a reply from the IEEE 1394 port

Try going for interactive startup by pressing 'I' during boot. Press "N" when it attempts to start "kudzu". Then "C" for the rest.

The NX9010 sucks with anything other than MS products because HP/Compaq has sold out to the MAN!
Follow this link and you will get it to work...
