Red face dual boot: win XP and Linux can't boot on another pc

I have a dual boot system. on the first partition,i put windows Xp ,and second partition i put redhat linux 9.0. It works fine.

A problem happened when i attached this harddisk to another pc. when i start the pc, it shows the grub boot up screen as normal showing the list of operating system to boot. when i choose linux, it can boot, but when i choose windows XP, it showed a message "Chainloader ......" and stop there.

So what's wrong? can't a dual boot harddisk be attached to another computer?

Thanks,

i'm going out on a limb here, but I think you'll probably have to re-install windows xp, it goes fruity like that if you switch the hard drive it's on to another machine sometimes.

Don't nuke Windows just yet...

Hello everybody. Personally I'm a LILO guy, but I looked up some resources on how to get your configuration to work with Red Hat and Grub. I've been able to get windows and Linux to coexist happily on a Red Hat box before, but I can't remember exactly what I did (since I've since switched distributions). The links below should get you straightened-out.

I hope this helps.

I've tried the same with windows before, due to the security in xp you have to have the same hardware in both computers to fool windows. Try reinstalling windows or try to boot windows in safe mode to make the changes.
