Difference between rhe advanced platform and rhe desktop?
 

I am debating whether to get RHE advanced platform or RHE desktop. The op system would have to simulate a company server. It would be nice to go with desktop and save $$, but is the desktop version too lightweight?

I worked for awhile at a company that used redhat E 5 on their servers. I would like to simulate the networks and databases that I used there.

RedHat site has quite a bit of information on what the different offerings actually do. Only you know what tho company server does... so you need to compare them. The main difference is in the support. Usually, any out-of-the-box deficiencies can be installed via up2date.

However: if saving money is a consideration, consider CentOS instead ... it is RHEL without the RH.

I've often been told to try CentOS, and I have downloaded it. But I am reluctant to use it because I suspect it has many subtle differences from RHE, enough to really screw up, say, an Oracle database install.

I will study the redhat website, that is a good idea.

Hmm, very interesting. Maybe worth a try. I really don't need that support stuff from redhat now, and it would be free!
