CUPS...network_printers_sharing_problem

hi all

we host a huge number of network printers [819 printers]

the shared printers becomes not shared automatically at random intervals. why ???????????????????

is there any way to enforce the sharing status at printers.conf [yes] always without stopping the cups.

It is impossible for anyone to know why since we know nothing about your network infrastructure, operating system or cups versions. Does this happen to one or more servers? Are you saying sharing in the printers.conf file is being modified from yes to no?

operating system :CentOS release 6.6
cups versions :2.0.2
Does this happen to one or more servers? We host all printers at ONE cups server.
Are you saying sharing in the printers.conf file is being modified from yes to no? Yes
...
all of the PCs connected to the network printers use wireless connection.

I found a thread discussing similar behaviour

http://serverfault.com/questions/684...y-printers-why

There is not enough information presented to determine the cause of the re-write, but it is important to stop the CUPS server first if you are manually editing /etc/printers.conf, since AFAIU CUPS keeps a live copy while running, and dynamically updates the file (eg printer status) while running, so perhaps your edit is then getting overwritten.

Anyway, it might be useful to put CUPS logging into debug mode
Code:
cupsctl LogLevel=debug
and examine /var/log/cups/error_log for references to 'Saving printers.conf...' etc.
