I don't know what I'm missing here. I am trying to share a printer from my linux box to my windows workstations. I can see the printer and connect to it but when I print a test page nothing happens. The job goes to the windows queue and the disappears.

I have added the PS driver for windows to the /etc/samba/drivers directory. I have also downloaded and tested the cups driver.

any ideas is greatly appreciated.

What is the printer? Make and model?

Does it work as a local printer on the linux system?

I don't think that will work.

1. The basic approach is to make the printer work on the linux system first.

2. Add the printer in samba.

3. On each windoze system you want to print to the linux ( samba shared ) printer, you have to use the Add Printer winzard. You add it as a remote printer. Use the browser the network option, if the printer shows up, you know samba is sharing the printer. Windoze will not be able to download the correct driver from the sharing system, so you do that manually. Pick the manufacturer, and model and add the printer in windoze with the windoze driver.

That has always worked for me.

I have never used this option I don't think linux can use a windoze driver.

When you install printer in Windows connected via network to Windows printer "server" for the first time, client Windows actually downloads driver files from server Windows.

Since you do not have that option on linux based printer server, I think you need to install Windows drivers for that printer on client Windows from installation media and then use Add Printer Wizard, and printing should work as expacted.
