Command line question

I am running CentOS 4.4

I just installed CentOS 4.4 as an educational and test LAMPs server.

My question is this: After my install and an update, i noticed that i have to type "/sbin/XXXXXX" where xxxxx is a command i.e. chkconfig, etc. to run a command.

Is this normal? normally you could just type the command and hit enter. but since the update which was rather large i have to add /sbin/, and i am logged in as root.

Is there a way to correct this?

Thanks

Your $PATH environmental variable seems to be broken. You can check it with:
Code:
$ echo $PATH
For me it's:
Code:
$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/opt/www/htdig/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/lib/java/jre/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin
I'm not sure how to natively reset the original $PATH but you can add folders to it with:
Code:
# export PATH="$PATH:/new/directory"
If I'm not mistaken then the original PATH built into init is
Code:
/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
So you should probably add it first.

Best of luck.
