CMD For Linux


How would you do the following in Linux:

Ping an IP address,
Ping an IP address -t
ipconfig
ipconfig /all
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Thank you for your time, I am new to Linux.

ping goes on until you stop it.
ipconfig is ifconfig in linux.
ifconfig up and down release and renew.

Thanks for the reply. How do you get to a command prompt or window to issue the command?

When people want to learn the command line quickly, I usually send them to This site as it's completely devoted to the Linux command line.

Hmmm... Do not know. How can you tell. I am using the what ever comes with RedHat Enterprise Edition.

Do you have an manual for it? If you do, you would benifit from reading it. If not, just move your mouse over every icon. This should pop up a description box. Look for thing that say terminal or rxvt. These are the cmd programs in Linux.

To get to the command terminal do the following:

Click the Red Hat (main menu)

Then select System Tools ---> Terminal
