Centos 6.3 x86_64 Install hangs Bug: Soft lock up!

I've been running Centos 5 for some time, and I wanted to start migrating to 6, so I tried loading it on a test machine (Dell core2duo optiplex 960). I can't even get to the install. It takes about 20 mins "Greetings anaconda installer" then mounts some filesystems, then i get BUG: soft lockup CPU0 stuck for 67s! [migration/0:5]

I've never encountered such a stubborn install. I've tried downloading iso's from several sites, tried reburning media. I can't for the life of me figure out why this is so angry. Where do I start trying to figure this out?

- Start by looking up what LQ or the LKML have to say about the "soft lockup" bug and its fixes?
- Boot the installer DVDROM in rescue mode, save 'dmesg' nfo and compare with with the HCL?
- Disable any BIOS functionality you don't need?
- Boot the installer DVDROM add "acpi=off noapic" to the GRUB kernel config line and use text install mode?
