cannot login using GNOME desktop
 

----i cannot get in my GNOME desktope environment ----

i'm using Redhat8 2.4.18 and also updated kernel 2.4.23. i have some problems related to x server while updating the kernel ( can see my separate post regarding that). that kernel-update process effected my current versdion(2.4.18) too. whatever the x server problems i have in new kernel version, and the chamges i make, they are reflected in the 2.4.18 version too. and other than that , now when i login using GNOMW desktop, the splash screen appears, and nothing else....it juts hangs there.

any idea what might have happened, and what could be the solution?

just to clarify - what have you upgraded - the kernel, gnome (what to what), or both

i have upgraded the kernel ( from 2.4.18 to 2.4.23 Redhat8) but i'm using both the kernels. now in my current/working kernel (2.4.18) GNOME won't start at all, just the KDE.
