Unhappy Can't reboot RHEL WS4 - swap space issue?

Hi,

I have Dell Precision 380 with Red Hat Enterprise Linux v4 for EM64T 64 bit system. I tried to load a very big file into a MySQL table (which never finished) and the system got really sluggish. Now when I try to reboot, the system hangs after "Enabling swap space". If I try to reboot from installation CD, it can't find the hard disk. I found a Dell advice to download new drivers from their site and install them from a floppy - but my system doesn't have a floppy.

Even though I still have some time on my Red Hat support, Red Hat and Dell are of no help. I'm considering installing Fedora Core (which seems to be finding my hard disk), but then I'll loose a week of work.

Would anybody please have some advice on how to get back into my system?

Piotr

try booting into runlevel 1, when grub loads up just hit "a" two times and append 1 to the line that appears. when in, check to see if any of your partitions are full, df -H.

Thanks for the tip, d3vil.
Actually, my machine recovered on itself - I left it hung, and it eventually rebooted. Now all is fine.

I have an issue that is not the same but very similar. I load RH Linux V4ES and then rebooted and my IBM Eserver X346 just hangs on the Enabling Swap space. I wouldn't be looking around so much but it happens on a lot of my IBM machines and my boss thinks it is because of the way I loaded it. I think it is a kernel problem that could have a patch to fix it.

Any ideas would be a great help.
