Can't install RH7.3 - need cd rom driver?
 

I *just* installed 7.3 on another brand new system a couple weeks ago from these same CDs with no problem ... Now, when I'm installing, after it asks about language and type of keyboard, it asks where the media is located for the install. I choose "Local CD-ROM" then it asks if it is SCSI or "Other CD-ROM" (I've never seen this before). It's not SCSI, so I choose other, then it asks for a driver disk - which I don't have.

I've never run into this problem before - it's always just gone through. What do I do? My CD-ROM has no specific driver, as far as I know, and it didn't need a driver just a couple weeks ago.

To make things more difficult, I don't have a floppy disk drive.

The system has a new Intel motherboard w/ the 865G chipset. I've tried two different CD-ROMs (both happen to be burners - not that it should matter), and two different IDE cables.

Have you checked your bios settings to see if the boot order allows a cdrom boot?

yes. keep in mind that this is a new computer with nothing on it at all, so the fact that I see anything at all means that it's accessing the cdrom to load up the loader. It reads from the CD to ask me the above questions - that's what I don't understand.

This only happens with the Intel d865gbf motherboard. I've just installed 7.3 with these exact same disks on systems with MSI Neo FIS2R & FIC Micro-ATX & everything works fine. I even used the same CDROM drive on the FIC.

I have no idea why I'm getting this message, especially considering that it reads the CD to ask me about language & where the media is located. Any ideas?

Well, in case anyone else ever runs into this...

turns out that RH 7.3 (maybe all Linux?) doesn't recognize Intel's enhanced IDE mode. There's a setting in the BIOS that allows you to switch it back to legacy mode and everything's happy.
