Building a Source RPM for RH9

Hi,

I need to build a source RPM for Apache 2.0.54 for a RH9 install as it doesn't seem that there are any available.

Upgrading this system is not that easy an option so.

I've never actually built a source RPM, is there any good guide somewhere on how to start, I've DL the source code itself from Apache.org but I don't assume this is what you need to build a source RPM?

Thanks

Redhat 9 and belw are end of life products, that no longer get any updates and support. You should really think abut usig a newer distro thats still in active development. Take a look at this page on the Redhat wbsite, you will find some useful information.

As for your question, you rebild a source rpm on RH9 by doing,
Code:
#rpm --rebuild filename.src.rpm

Hi, I probably didn't make myself clear. I understand how to go from a src.rpm to a standard rpm but I don't know how to compile the SRC RPM itself.

How do I compile the src.rpm file basically from a binary (tarball)

In my case the apache tarball.

Cheers

I am not sue exactly what you mean, but to create an rpm and a source rpm from a source tarball, you would do,
Code:
#rpm -ba filename.spec
