Botched RedHat 9 install, GRUB not loading XPhome

My system is dual boot xphome and redhat 7.2. When starting the RH9 install I stupidly ignored the media check (i had downloaded the isos from linuxiso) and during the package install, the install stopped and I recieved an error message that the rpm manager package was corrupt. Without another disc to try I rebooted my pc to check the iso and make another disc. The grub boot loader then came up, I waited, and nothing happed. None of the commands I tried would boot Windows. I could not go to RedHat 7.2 because it had been removed before install began. Now I need to use windows and I don't know any way to get into it. Help would be greatly apreciated!

Have a read of the trouble shooting section assuming you get a grub menu?

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hlight=trouble

2) assuming you had resized xp to make room for rh on the same drive your C drive is (hd0,0)

You will need to use the TAB key if its not and re-read the trouble shooter but jumping ahead try this first

boot goes to grub and it hangs or does nothing
Press C for commands and prompt or cursor changes to show grub

then type

unhide (hd0,0)
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1
boot

pressing enter for each line.

3) print this out b4 reboot and print out the trouble shooting section in case you need to use tab if c drive is not hd0,0

4) You could always use your xp cd to try rescue. Windows forums or windows site should tell you how. You will need to resolve your md5sum issues b4 trying linux and I suggest you put ntldr back on soon otherwise you will be peeved off with linux.

5) try the readme files on various linux cds b4 installing. I have been burnt myself so it is handy to know

Thanks, problem resolved

Hey thanks, i wish had waited for a reply to my post before i had taken action on this. Your grub commands look like an easy fix, and no, i hadn't read the trouble shooter as i should have. What i did to resolve this was, as you suggested, dig out my xp install disc, run windows rescue, and run fixmbr to replace my master boot record(supposedly there is some risk of making partitions inaccessable as a result, so first i ran discpart i think it was and deleted my linux parts though im not sure it was necessary, ill just have to make sure the resulting free space is formatted and repartitioned before or during my next install). In the end, i had no linux parts, so no RH, and my computer went straight into xp. Im new to linux, so losing the parts wasn't a big deal for me. Ill definitely be running the media check on my disks from now on, and ill save your solution incase a similiar situation arises, thank you.
