Apache connection refused

I am currently running RedHat Linux 9 and am having a problem connecting to the Apache server from a remote computer. If I type in 127.0.0.1 or localhost, the test page appears but if I use the IP address it gives me an error stating that the 'connection was refused'.

I figured that this was a firewall issue so I made sure to completely disable the firewall but the problem is still occuring.

Any suggestions?

Is Apache configured to listen to your external interface?

What does netstat -tpan print?

also try adding an entry in your /etc/hosts file

currently there will be something like

127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain

add a line under it (replacing the machine's IP and hostname)

192.168.0.x machinehostname

but also make sure that the "servername" setting in the httpd.conf is set to the machine's hostname (or FQDN)
