Allegro game programming library on RH9

I have been using linux on and off for some time now and there was a problem i havent been able to solve for some time now. So i am asking it here.

I have installed allegro library(allegro.cc). I followed all instructions. But it seems that it doesnt have x11 support. The only screen mode it runs is 320x200 8bpp in mode-X. Why? If i need to isntall some header files where do i find them?

I am running Red hat Linux 9.
