Access Domain Servers

good day, everyone...

can you guide me on how to access AD Servers on Red Hat 9?

i do not intend to 'join' the Red Hat box on the AD. Is there a way for this?

I can ping the servers but I can not browse their files... any help would be gladly appreciated.

much thanks,
midnytblu

Hi, If you just want to access AD server and browser its files, configure the samba. You said you do not intent to join domain, it sounds that it is same to access a common Windows machine, not AD specially.

Regards,
Phillip

thank you for your reply, my friend...

the thing is, i am not really familiar with Red Hat (or to Unix in general)... should I look for the smb.conf file? if that is the case, what should I specifically look for?

at first I really thought that AD was the problem because I can not access it through the Network Browser GUI... but as you said, it is not entirely related to AD.

thanks again much

You're welcome,

Deploy AD to Linux, is used to make Linux machine to join Windows Domain and get the Windows User's information, maybe has a little similar as LDAP or NIS service.

You said you can not access it through the Network Browser GUI, I suggest you check the network status of AD(ping the AD server), and ensure the samba service is running on your RedHat Linux box,
Code:
 service smb status
If smb is not running, start it and try to access AD again.

Regards,
phillip
