3 concurrent logins 4 same user?
...maybe this post belongs in Security or General; if so, please pardon my judgment.
[root@kinjiru bin]# w 18:50:22 up 9:24, 3 users, load average: 0.24, 0.18, 0.11 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT tyccea :0 - 9:28am ? 0.00s 0.14s /bin/sh /usr/bi tyccea pts/0 - 9:29am 9:21m 0.00s 0.81s kdeinit: kwrite tyccea pts/1 - 5:52pm 0.00s 0.42s 0.13s /bin/bash [root@kinjiru bin]# Why am I logged in three times? I don't really understand this output. gkrellm will say 2 users are logged in the whole time I'm signed on. Is there a document anyone knows of that addresses this question specifically? TIA |
Any chance you're running screen? On on hand, the pts/0 and pts/1 makes me think you are. On the other hand, the lack of screen showing up as a command that is being run makes me think otherwise. Of course, the pts logins might also indicate that you had connected from a remote connection (telnet, ssh, etc...) but I don't think so since all of the FROM fields are marked as - (which I believe means local).
I think I'd have to know more about your environment in order to be more helpful. What init level do you boot into? Best, Adam |
Just thought I'd mention that my gkrellm info does concur with the output of w. Gkrellm reports 8 users on my system.

yo uget logged in once when you login. Then each time you open a terminal window you get logged in again. So with X running and one terminal window open from which you look for who's logged in, you'll see yourself twice. If you have more terminal windows open, you'll see more of you.

Thanks for clearing that up. The answer was right there in the output...boy, you people make me feel so dumb. :p I love it.
