Won't boot without CD
 

I loaded puppy on an older machine and that went quick. However, I've done something wrong in the setup, partitioning, etc? When I boot without the CD ROM installed it says "Boot failure".

What next?

Here are a couple of articles that will tell you how to get the files you need on your hd to boot from your hd. I used one step by step articles and it worked out good except I did not have dos 6.22, I think I used cfdisk as the partitioning tool from a live Mepis cd to partition with. I am giving you these lists and I can not remember which one I used but try one and if you have any problems ask and I will try and help you.

That's interesting ... if it boots with GRUB, enter the interactive mode and look at what all the arguments are. It is also possible that your HD was 'enumerated' differently between booting from CD for install and booting from HD. Are tere any messages which appear before the "failed" message?

One of the articles that I read said the reason for this was you can save your preferences and behaviors and home in different file formats. In other words when you do the frugal save it will save within a ntfs or fat or ext file system. There is no need to create a separate partition for your puppy save as long as you do not mind booting from cd. The beauty is that after you boot you can remove your cd (unlike most other live cds) and continue to use puppy.
