The first thing to do before you try to burn any .iso file is to do an md5sum check, to verify you have a good download. For puppy 431, this is what it the check should be.

Quote:

ISO 1 pup-431.iso
(2421 downloads) 561c83156b4dae5da0b6135b53d8c421
In wondows to do the check, see this link.

-->http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...sum_in_Windows

If the sum generated from the file matches the above, then you have a good download.

There are other choices for burning .iso files in windows. I have never used the program you posted.

Good media is essential. Do you know your burner works???

I am using windows Vista.
My internet connection is bit slow .It took 3.5 hrs to download pup-431.iso to download.
I am unable to do md5sum check frm my cmd.

please suggest which command line should I type to get the required result.

Did you install md5sum.exe from here ? -->http://www.etree.org/cgi-bin/counter...are/md5sum.exe

It is worth the time to check the file before you waste CD's finding out the download is no good. If you bypass this step, and the CD won't boot, you will have wasted time, CD's etc. Your choice.

Is this a new system you have not used before? Have burned anything in windows before?

There are freeware listed, and payware listed. I have used Roxio before, I still have a copy sitting on my book shelf. I have not tried any of the freeware programs, you can read the comments of others on that link for the freeware programs. I

sir

i was unable to do the md5sum check in windows command prompt . i did exactly as instructed , so i decided 2 go ahead with burning, luckily it worked. I know its bad practice 2 bypass that step , but I was left with no choice as i repeatedly failed to do the check.

So thats how my first running with linux OS (puppy4.3.1) went ahead.

It worked well

Glad you had success.

If the burn went well, and you installed successfully, then the check would confirm you had a good download.

Just a guess, most windoze users do not understand what a 'path' is; or what directories are in their system path. This will cause the commands to fail if the pathing is not correct between the md5sum.exe file and the .iso file to be checked.

Not a big deal now, since the burn has worked.
