Taking the plunge...

Tracer,
Glad to see that you are giving Puppy a trial. Hope you have success and if you do have question or problems ask away! We'll try to help you out. Like any work in progress Puppy has its little oddities and occasional problems but its speed and simplicity really make it worthwhile. Good luck!

well i tried last night putting Puppy on my flash drive, and it did not work, any suggestions on how to put this on a flash drive?

Nathan F 06-25-2006 05:36 PM

A little more specific than 'it did not work' might help us to help you. Was this the most current Puppy? If so did you use the universal installer? Is it formatted with a single bootable FAT partition? What brand and make of flash drive? Things like that.

There is quite a lot of info here - if using 2.01 or SeaMonkey, the adblock addon might be useful

Puppy 2.17 - no sound and modem hassles

I downloaded "puppy-2.17-nolzma-seamonkey-fulldrivers.iso", burned it to a CD and booted from it. No problems and Puppy loaded OK. However, there is no sound at all (I have a Soundblaster card). How can I find out if Puppy "missed" the card when detecting devices, and any suggestions how I could get the sound to work?

Also, I have an external 56K dial-up modem for connecting to the internet, and although Puppy recognised this straight away, and configured, and dialed up OK, it would not sign on to my BTInternet account as the password kept getting refused by the site. The password is correct, I didn't type it in wrong. The setup window for the dial-up has two big alpha-numeric string in the top right-hand corner which Puppy put in there... could they be wrong? Any suggestions?

So basically, everything works except the sound and dial up. Any advice on what promises to be a very good distro, would be appreciated.

Puppy is one sweet liveCD. It's really incredible how fast my old junkers can run on this thing.

I did run across a 'bug'. I installed Puppy to an HDD shared with Xubuntu. Puppy renamed the main kernel on the partition, so it rendered Xubuntu inoperable. Thankfully I could just rename the old kernel back and remove the symbolic link.

Other than that, a fantastic distro.

Cheers...

I'm new to Linux. Thought I'de try Puppy 3, since everyone seems to like Puppy. I downloaded and burned to CD. Tried to boot up with CD and got this message:

isolinux: Disk Error 9C, AX = 4200, Drive 9F

Boot failed: press any key to retry.

I pressed a key and same thing occurred. I'm a little disappointed. By the way, is there a "new Thread" or "New Post" button anywhere on this page? that's why I'm using this reply box.
