Unable to successfully boot from Puppy Linux 4.3.1 iso image

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hello,

I tried booting from Puppy Linux 4.3.1 iso in VirtualBox.

When it comes to setting up the Xvesa screen, I get a terminal window with the following messages:

(To Shutdown PC type "poweroff", to reboot PC type "reboot")
This script will run X windows for you...
Starting X with video mode 0x0111 and mouse input/mice...

This keep repeating continously. In between it shows the X window screen with X and then back to the terminal window.

Looks like it is stuck in a loop. It keeps doing the same thing again and again.

I have had Puppy Linux 4.3 successfully install in VirtualBox, but since there was an SFS issue in installing OpenOffice, which i get was fixed in 4.3.1, I am trying to install 4.3.1...

Thanks for all the help I can get... in advance.

regards
Donald

Red face

Thanks for asking. It is using Xorg on both PCs. I don't think it is GUI related.

I am sorry this is not my question. Please disregard.

AFAIK you can choose to use xorg or xvesa.
Do you have the problem with both?

Hi Repo,

I used puppy-431-NOP.iso (Nearly Office Puppy version) and it installed fine.
I have now FireFox 3.5.4, Xfe, etc installed in NOP.

The pup-431.iso still has the problem.
If I select xorg, screen goes Black.
If I select xvesa the above mentioned problem occurs.

Thanks for asking.
I am now doing fine with NOP version.

regards
Donald

I have found that I could get past the blank screen by hitting the enter key several times, but that would not leave me with a good operational screen in VirtualBox. I have found that selecting xvesa would work, but it sometimes fowls out the mouse. If you get it working with xvesa, it will work flawlessly thereafter (at least it did for me). NOTE: this is running VirtualBox on a full install puppy 4.3.1 system and installing a frugal puppy 4.3.1 system as a virtual machine.
