Slacko Puppy (Beginner/Switcher Question): Working as root?

Greetings,

I am a fairly new user to Puppy Linux (switched from Ubuntu because I needed a better live system), so excuse if this question is a stupid one - but on the other hand, as I am already experienced with other distroes, there was something I was wondering about.
First of all, I use Slaco Puppy on a USB Pendrive (2 Gigabyte) manufactured by SanDisk. My personal data is in an encrypted ext2 image as offered by Puppy on first shutdown.
Usually, Puppy puts the user (= me) in root mode by default. I remember there once was something like "Rule number one" (At least it was for me, as I was very careless as a beginner):
"Do not work as root"
That is something that I want to be sure about before I use Puppy in a productive way - I did not make a mistake or something of that sort? Is there any way to work as a "normal" user account, except from the "useradd/passwd" way?
Thank you for any help or advice on that question.

This is a common criticism of Puppy Linux.

So i didn't screw anything up while setting up, it's characteristic for the system. OK, I guess Ican live with that. Just have to make backups on a regular base in case I screw something up, but I'd do that anyway. Thanks for anwering that.
