Script that is interactive outside of a console

I am looking for a way to make script files more interactive.

I don't want to run it from a console.

I would like this script to prompt me for a filename and finish up.

Can it be done ?

# Assemble, link, and run ELF programs using Flat Assembler Linux Puppy 5.6.0
if [ "${1}" = "" ]
        echo 'No filename passed.'
echo 'Assembling source code, please wait....'
        fasm $1.asm

not sure what you are looking for but the read command is useful for interactive scripts.

if you dont want to have to run them from terminal you can look into nautilus scripts (but i'm not sure if gnome-3 supports them).

also zenity can be used to add gui widgets to bash scripts.
