puppy linux only single user mode?
 

When i installed Puppy Linux on USB Flash Drive i recognize that there is only a single user mode possible. Any one knows if there are possibilities to create a non-privileged user?

Just use adduser and if that doesn't exist, try useradd. Though with useradd you will need to supply many options upfront (see the man page).

Puppy linux is lightweight, so, in order to be lightweight: Single User. But, you can fatten puppy up with "useradd".

Umm ... right. This has nothing to do with Puppy being lightweight. Adding another user doesn't exactly "fatten a distro up".

Puppy Linux has had a default su-user named "spot" with no password set . login spot [Enter] [Enter] and you're not root anymore . In newer Puppies there has been added a user named "fido" . Don't know if "spot" still exist . Be aware that as non-root the key-combo CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE does not work in Xorg anymore to change to terminal .

I have used another KISS approach.
Running Puppy Slacko 5.3.3 with save-H.3fx file.
Copy the "save-?.3fs" file to several more named files, such as "save-JOHN.3fs", "save-MARY.3fs", "save-JERRY.3fs".
When puppy loads, it will present you with the option of selecting ONE of these files.
Each "save-?.3fs" can contain its own setup / configs / PETs , etc.
Each user just selects his own "save-?.3fx" file.
I realize this is not a "secure" approach,
but since I have the capability of probing any "save-?.3fx" file and extracting any info and any file,
there is no absolute security available anyway.
My latest install, which was today, relies on the user group to select the proper "save-?.3fs" file at bootup.
