Problems running Puppy on IBM ThinkPad 380XD.

Hello LQ'ers,

I'm attempting to replace the yucky Windows OS on my ThinkPad 380XD. I am hoping to use Puppy.

The problem: Puppy will not boot off the LiveCD. It simply says:
Quote:

ISOLINUX (2005-DEC-10)
or something like that (got the numbers wrong).

I believe ISOLINUX doesn't support this old computer. I have gotten the Syslinux CD of Damn Small running. How can I get around this? I'd really prefer Puppy.

Thanks in advance,
Sajro

Will the CD boot on another computer?

Well, I'm trying to install Gentoo on the exact same machine you are! I too run into the problem you're experiencing, and the solution I've found is simply to reset the BIOS. Unfortunately, it's not a long term solution. I sometimes have to do so every time I reboot to the CD. To reset the BIOS, unplug the system battery, the AC adapter, and the BIOS battery thats inside the RAM compartment. Note, I've only experienced this problem while trying to boot CD's. Once you have puppy installed to the HDD, you shouldn't experience this problem anymore.

Hope this helped!
