Printing Help
 

Greetings all...
I am new to puppy.
I have 2 Live cds 2.13 and 2.14 - Multisession and I am able to connect to my local windows
hard drive.
I currently only can print ps files and then I save them on my windows hard local hard drive and print in windows.
I work at a print shop and print to several Xerox printers on our network.
They are on various IP addresses that I do know..
I have a Xerox Workcentre 7655, a Docucolor 12 , Document Centre 440 and a Phaser 8550

How can I get the puppy to print to any of those?

You'll need the IP address, you should be able to go to the printer and print a configuration page that lists the IP address. For the DC440 press the machine status button then print reports, I think you'll see it there.


Go to Menu, System, Xpdq printer management. Once you have Xpdq open do this:

1) Delete "myprinter" (Printer drop down, Delete printer)

2) Add a printer (Printer drop down, Add printer)
2a) Click next.
2b) Enter a printer name. Click next. (doesn't matter much)
2c) Make sure generic-postscript is selected and click next.
2d) Number of copies, just click next.
2e) Select bsd-lpd, and click next.
2f) Enter the printer's IP address in the Remote lpd host field.
2g) Enter the printer's queue name in the Remote lpd queue field. For your Xerox 440 leave the "lp" there. For you DC12 with a Fiery??? put "print", or "direct", or "hold". For the 7655 I'm not sure probably "lp" or "raw". For HP printers and many others put "raw", in fact when in doubt try "raw", most support raw printing.

3) Right click on the printer you just created and set it as the default printer.

4) Click on driver options and make any changes you need.

Hi hope you won't mind me asking here also The previous post led me along a bit further.
I wondered what was the case for a printer(Epson) attached to the USB0 port ?
I put it as /dev/usb/lp0 but it does not seem to find it
Does the printer on this USB port have an IP address also?
Would I also use bsd-lpd ?
Will my printer tell me its IP Address ?

No, for a USB, parallel, or any non-postscript printer you'll want to use the printer wizard. If your printer isn't supported by the wizard, then you might want to try the CUPS package found here:

For the benefit of anyone reading this thread puppy versions prior to 2.12 have a bug in which Xpdq will not work with usb printers...cups is fine though.
