How to upgrade software
I enjoy running Puppy Linux but there is a newer version out and I don't know how to upgrade my installation.
Likewise with Sylpheed - there is a later version but I don't know how to install it. In Ubuntu, for example, I would use apt-get but this is not available in Puppy - or is it? Cheers John, Melbourne, Australia |
I don't use Puppy, but I found these which may be of help:
UpgradingPuppy | Puppy Linux http://www.puppylinux.org/wiki/misce...upgradingpuppy It looks like you can use the Debian packages to install/upgrade your software: Debian Programs | Puppy Linux http://www.puppylinux.org/?q=manuals...ebian-programs |
Many thanks for this help - your Googling is obviously far superior to mine! ;-)>
I will look these references up shortly and see how I go. Cheers John |

Hi
After reading the first link given above I have done just that - downloaded the latest ISO. What I was seeking was the correct procedure to follow so that my existing data files, etc would be retained. I am visiting in Brisbane at the moment with a notebook which can not burn a CD but will be back home early next week when I can burn the ISO disk and run the install. I am still trying to find out how to upgrade applications given that Puppy does not have apt-get. Or do I just install the latest version and will this replace the current version or will I end up with 2 application versions on the computer? And what happens to things like email address books? Cheers John |
